In short: Hype coin (HYPE) hit an all-time high of $92.56 on 18 September 2026, with a market cap near $20 billion. Nobody can say if now is a good buy, but five checks help.
Should you buy HYPE now? That is the question, and no one can answer it for you. Anyone who says they can is guessing. What we can do is show you what the token is, what the numbers say today, and what would have to hold for a buy to make sense.
One thing to know before anything else. Yesterday's high means you would be buying at the top of the chart, not off a dip.

What hype coin actually is
"Hype coin" trips people up, because it sounds like a joke and it isn't one. HYPE is the native token of Hyperliquid, a trading venue for perpetual futures that runs on its own blockchain. You pay fees in it, you stake it, and you use it to vote.
The part that matters for price is where the fees go. Hyperliquid sends 97% to 99% of what it earns into something called the Assistance Fund, which uses the money to buy HYPE on the open market. That is a buyback, and it runs all the time.
Hyperliquid(HYPE) Long Term Case: Revenue, Treasury Buybacks And Why Accumulation Works Now | 3.0 TV · 3.0 TV · Watch on YouTubeAMINA Bank's July 2026 research note puts the scale at $857 million in fees for 2025 and $1.3 billion deployed into buybacks by May 2026. It works out to close to 7% of the token's market cap each year.
HYPE market cap and price today
We pulled these from CoinGecko on 19 September 2026. They move by the minute.
| Measure | Figure |
|---|---|
| Price | $91.52 |
| Market cap | $20,384,101,152 (rank #11) |
| Fully diluted valuation | $87.5 billion |
| 24-hour volume | $1.78 billion |
| Circulating supply | 222.446 million HYPE |
| Maximum supply | 1 billion HYPE |
| All-time high | $92.56 on 18 September 2026 |
| All-time low | $3.81 on 29 November 2024 |
Two things stand out. The first is the gap between $20.4 billion and $87.5 billion. Market cap counts only the tokens in circulation, and fully diluted value counts all of them. Most of the supply is not out yet, which we come back to under unlocks.
The second is that the sources don't agree. TradingView, on the same day, showed about $22.96 billion and 251.53 million tokens in circulation. Sites count "circulating" differently, so the market cap you see depends on where you look. Pick one source and stick to it when you compare.
What the chart is telling you
Here is the live HYPE/USDT daily chart. It updates as you read, so use it to check the levels below against today's price.
Price is about a dollar under its high, up 11.7% in 24 hours and 11.2% over 7 days. That is a fast run. On 6 September, the day of the last big unlock, HYPE traded at $82.60. On TradingView the 52-week low is $25.64, set on 24 February 2026. Anyone who bought in the last year is sitting on a large gain, and some of them will want to take it.
An all-time high has one useful property. There is no old price above it where trapped buyers wait to sell at break-even. It also has a cost: you have no chart history to tell you where the floor is. The nearest support you can point to is the $82.60 area from two weeks ago.
Practical rule: on a coin at its high after a week like this, check RSI and volume on the daily and 4 hour charts before anything else. A new high on falling volume is a weaker signal than a new high on rising volume. If RSI is stretched, a pullback is normal and it says nothing about the project.
Where Hyperliquid stands
The business behind the token is doing real volume. AMINA cites $493 billion in trading volume in the first quarter of 2026, and a share of on-chain perpetual futures volume of 44% to 80%, depending on how you count. The range is wide because there is no agreed way to measure it.
Two US exchange-traded funds that hold HYPE, from Bitwise and Grayscale, are listed. The Grayscale one also passes on staking rewards. Native staking pays roughly 2.4% a year.
Then there is HIP-3, the feature that lets outside builders launch their own perpetual markets on Hyperliquid. The docs set the stake at 500,000 HYPE, held for at least 183 days after the market goes live. That locks tokens up, and it is how markets on things like oil and stock indices have ended up on the platform.

The risks people skip
The buyback is policy, not a promise. AMINA says so directly: governance could change it. It also depends on fees, and fees depend on traders showing up. If volume falls, so does the money buying the token.
Buybacks alone don't guarantee a rising price either. DL News noted in June 2025 that dYdX put a quarter of its profits into buying its token back, and it still sat 90% below its all-time high. Different project, same lesson.
Then the unlocks. On 6 September, 9.92 million HYPE, about $820 million at the time, became claimable by core contributors and early team members. That is roughly 0.99% of maximum supply. Crypto.news argues the headline is misleading: after the March 2026 unlock, only about 1.75% of the unlocked tokens reached exchanges within 30 days, and the fund had burned 48.42 million HYPE. That comes to 4.84% of the original supply. Both points are fair. Still, AMINA notes the rest of the supply vests through 2027 and 2028, so this is a monthly event, not a one-off.
Last, the team holds a lot of control. In March 2025 an attacker used the thin JELLY market to strain the exchange's liquidity vault. The team delisted the token and settled at a price that spared the vault. It saved users money. It also showed that a small group can act on the venue, and that is the centralisation worry that keeps coming back.

So, should you buy now?
Ask yourself these first.
- Can you sit through a 30% drop? The all-time low is $3.81 and the price is $91.52. This token has moved a long way, in both directions.
- Do you know why you want it? A view on Hyperliquid's fee income is a reason. "It's going up" is not.
- Is your entry a plan or a reaction? Buying after an 11.7% day is a reaction. A plan says how much, at what price, and where you're wrong.
- Size. Keep the position small enough that a fall back to the last unlock price, $82.60, doesn't change your week.
- When is the next unlock? They land on the 6th of each month.
None of this predicts where HYPE goes. It's a way to decide in a manner you can defend to yourself, whether the price rises or falls.
If you trade off charts, this is what a screener is for. Set the conditions you care about, such as RSI above a level with volume rising on the last candle, and let it flag a match rather than staring at one coin. Check that HYPE is in your coin list first.
Nothing here is financial advice, and a backtest of any rule is not a forecast.
